Casting Services Built Around Your Vision
Model Viability Pre-Check
Before initiating your project, we assess your models for casting suitability, providing recommendations to meet our proven standards. This evaluation determines the optimal casting method (vacuum or centrifuge) and appropriate tree weight. Should you choose to proceed despite potential issues, we offer a failure waiver option.
Pricing & Billing:
Model Pre-Check Fee: $5 per model, with 50% credited toward your first casting order within 30 days.
Note: If no casting order is placed within 30 days, the Model Pre-Check Fee is non-refundable.
3-D Printed Waxes – Wax-Resin
For most designs, this is your fastest path from digital to cast. Our go-to method for lost wax casting uses a high-quality wax-resin that doesn’t require bulky, single-function machinery—meaning quicker turnaround without compromising detail. This material is suitable for around 90% of models, making it a reliable choice for speed and consistency.
Pricing & Billing:
Plate Fee: $50 per plate, covering print setup, model cleaning, and preparation for spruing. This fee remains constant, whether printing one or multiple models, and includes hazardous materials disposal to ensure environmental responsibility.
Wax-Resin Fee: $1.50 per gram of printed wax-resin, with pre-print weight estimates provided by our software.
Billing Details: New clients are invoiced for the plate fee prior to print setup; established clients receive combined billing for both fees.
Injection Wax Models
While rapid printing tech has opened amazing doors for small-scale manufacturing, there’s still a lot to love about the tried-and-true methods. If your design includes sharp angles, flat faces that need polishing, or you’re looking for the best cost per piece, vulcanized molds and wax injection might be exactly what you need. For certain model types, nothing beats the consistency and efficiency of this timeless process. You get clean, polishable surfaces and the ability to easily produce multiples—all without sacrificing detail. We’re proud to offer this classic technique alongside our nimble, tech-forward options so you can choose what works best for your work.
Pricing & Billing:
Mold Creation: $75 for standard complexity models within a 2.75×1.75×1″ frame.
Injected Waxes: $0.50 per gram.
3-D Printed Waxes – 100% Wax
For models requiring higher precision than wax-resin printers can achieve, we collaborate with specialized providers to produce 100% wax prints. These models include a paraffin support structure, dissolved in alcohol to reveal crisp details.
Pricing & Billing:
Post-Processing Fee: $2 per model, encompassing hazardous materials disposal to maintain environmental health.
Note: Wax per gram and plate fees are currently being confirmed and will be updated accordingly.
CAD Referral Service
Have a design in your head or sketched on paper that you’re ready to turn into a 3D model? We can help make that happen. Through our own jewelry work, we’ve built strong relationships with a couple of top-notch CAD wizards; professionals we trust, who are now available to work on your designs too. Just send us your sketches and reference images, and we’ll help you organize the details your CAD designer will need. We handle the communication and submit everything to the CAD team for a quote and timeline. Once you approve the estimate, we’ll coordinate payment and get your project underway. Your finished files will be delivered in both .stl and .3dm formats, ready for casting; or for whatever you want to do next.
Pricing & Billing:
Using our CAD Referral Service bypasses the Model Pre-Check process.
CAD rendering costs typically range from $45 to several hundred dollars, depending on the size and complexity of your design.
If you have a specific budget in mind, let us know before we request a quote—our goal is to help keep your project within scope.
New clients are billed for the CAD quote before rendering begins.
Established clients are invoiced when final design files are delivered.
Vacuum & Centrifuge Casting
At KB Modern Casting, your model is matched with the casting method that will give you the cleanest, most successful results. We use both vacuum and centrifuge casting, and we’ll select the best fit based on your model’s geometry, scale, and detail. You don’t need to worry about choosing the right process—we’ll handle that part, so you get reliable outcomes without extra guesswork. Both methods use the same metal pricing and per-flask fee, so your cost stays consistent no matter which technique is used.
Pricing & Billing:
Base Casting Charge: $75 per flask.
Depending on model size and complexity, we can usually fit 4 to 30 pieces into a single flask.
Additional Model Fee: $5 per extra model within the same flask (grouped by general weight categories). This helps reduce your per-piece cost when casting multiples.
Billing Details: Flask and model fees are billed prior to investment and casting, alongside your metals charge.
